Radboudumc International Patient Office 

Radboudumc International Patient Office is dedicated to assisting patients from abroad and their healthcare providers by facilitating access to Radboudumc in the Netherlands. We offer support to help you navigate the Dutch healthcare system before, during, and after your stay. We focus especially on patients who do not have Dutch healthcare insurance and non-Dutch speakers. Our team is here to assist you and your family throughout your visit or stay at Radboudumc.

Medical matters

• Medical information

  As part of your treatment or examination, the Radboudumc doctor may need some additional medical information concerning your situation:

  • This could be a referral* from your attending physician or a brief description of your medical condition.
  • Medical history and records: As part of your treatment or examination, we may need some additional medical information or your medical history. We will apply for this information to other healthcare providers or facilities, but we need your permission to do so. We will notify you if this applies to you.

  * If you do not have a referral from your attending physician or GP, you can still come to Radboudumc for treatment. Our physician will first assess your request. If your request is approved, you can receive treatment at Radboudumc. We do ask in this case that you meet our financial conditions prior to your appointment.   Permission to request medical records from another hospital/clinic

  As part of your treatment or examination, we may need some additional medical information. We will apply for this information to other healthcare providers or facilities, but we need your permission to do so.
  If this applies to you, we will send you a letter with a Consent Form for you to sign.

  Children and/or legally incapacitated patients

  Where children and/or legally incapacitated patients are concerned, a legal representative’s signature is usually required to grant permission to request medical data. Since it is impossible for us to know which rules apply in the country from which we need to retrieve your medical data, we have included on the consent form an option for a legal representative such as a parent, guardian, or a mentor/trustee to co-sign or sign the form. 

• Medicine use registration 

  Radboudumc is required to monitor your medicine use. We do this for your own safety. Monitoring takes place at each outpatient clinic visit, on admission, or before administering medicine at the day treatment unit. We call this the medicine use check. 
  To help us monitor your use adequately, we ask that you bring along an overview of the medicines you are currently taking.

• Infection prevention

  MRSA and MDRO

  MDRO is a collective term for Multidrug Resistant Microorganisms. These microorganisms are less sensitive to antibiotics. MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus Aureus) is an MDRO.

  Questionnaire 

  If you are visiting our hospital, we would like you to answer some questions about MRSA and MDRO. Depending on your answers, we will decide whether you need to be tested for MRSA and/or MDRO.

  Chicken pox

  Does your child have an appointment at Radboudumc? Patients with reduced immunity can become infected with chickenpox and become seriously ill as a result.
  Please contact the department where you have an appointment as soon as possible if your child:

  • currently has or has recently had chicken pox
  • has been in contact with children with chicken pox
  • has been in an environment where chicken pox is prevalent

  Will you help prevent the spread of viruses at Radboudumc?

  If you have flu or cold symptoms, we ask you to wear a face mask during your visit to Radboudumc. It does not matter whether these symptoms are the result of COVID-19 or not. What is a simple cold for one person may result in a potentially serious illness for another. You can find face mask dispensers at the entrances to our buildings. Thank you!

• Your primary care provider

  Your treatment at Radboudumc will involve several healthcare providers. In some cases, these healthcare providers work together as a team, contributing their various medical expertises. At any given time, there is one physician who is ultimately responsible for the quality, coordination, and continuity of your treatment. This is your primary care provider. The healthcare providers involved in your treatment will always consult with your primary care provider when making important decisions.

• Aftercare

  Following your treatment, examination, or admission, we will ensure that you receive proper aftercare. We usually do not provide this aftercare ourselves, but rather delegate it to your physician in your home country or to other healthcare providers involved. 
  To inform your physician or other relevant third parties, we need your consent or that of your authorized representative. In some cases, you may receive a letter or information from us that you can use in your home country to apply for aftercare.

• The Electronic Health Record (EHR) and mijnRadboud

  At Radboudumc, records of your treatment are kept in an Electronic Health Record (EHR). This record also contains any correspondence with your GP or other specialists. You have the right to inspect your medical record, provided that this does not impair someone else's right to inspection.

  mijnRadboud

  MijnRadboud allows you to access part of your personal medical record in a secure online environment. Unfortunately, MijnRadboud is not yet accessible to international patients unless you have a Dutch BSN number.

• Waiting times and access times

  On our Dutch page, you can view the current waiting times and access times at Radboudumc. You can use the translation function to translate the text. Select the text you would like to translate, click on 'translate' and select the correct language.
