Reinbursement of Travel Costs

The amount of your commuting allowance depends on your travel distance and mode of transport. Check the table for an overview.

Mode of transport Allowance

On foot

€ 0.18 per km (no maximum travel distance)
Bicycle € 0.18 per km (no maximum travel distance)
Car € 0.18 per km, up to 40 km one way
Public transport 100% of public transport costs (2nd class), from 7 km one way
Up to 7 km one way € 0.18 per km

See also the video below for more information (select English subtitles via the wheel-icon).

The collective labor agreement allowance for commuting is €0.18 per km. This is less than the tax-exempt maximum of €0.23 per km (amounts for 2024). For the difference and for kilometers above the 40 km limit, you can use the tax exchange scheme in the flexible benefits model (KMA).

The collective labor agreement allowance is paid monthly, and the KMA allowance is paid annually with your holiday pay. The tax space is automatically optimized.

Are you already participating in the KMA commuting allowance? Then you do not need to submit a new application when the collective labor agreement allowance starts.

Working Conditions Selection Model

Using the Working Conditions Selection Model, you can swap working conditions so that they correspond to your own specific wishes and requirements. One major advantage is that you can pay less tax by switching certain working conditions. For example, you can use the holiday allowance, end-of-year bonus, or part of your salary or allowances to buy a bicycle or as compensation for a contribution to a trade union or professional association.

Compensation for commuting from home

You can request reimbursement for your travel costs for commuting from home to Radboudumc based on the working conditions selection model. You then swap part of your gross holiday allowance for an annual net reimbursement. This yields a tax benefit. The tax benefit is the reimbursement for the travel costs for commuting from home. We explain how this works on this page.

Cycle scheme

If you would like to buy a bicycle for your commute, you will be able to make use of the Radboudumc cycle scheme once every five years. Buying an (electric) cycle or electric scooter will allow you to profit from a large tax benefit through the working conditions selection model. You will in addition receive a one-off cycle allowance amounting to €150.00.

Reimbursement for contribution to trade union or professional association

By means of the selection model, you will be able to swap gross pay for a net reimbursement of a contribution to a trade union or professional association. This provides you with a net benefit. You do not have to use the selection model for all professional associations. This is because Radboudumc pays the membership fees of many professional associations and (quality) registers based on the UMC collective labor agreement (CLA).

Pension

All Radboudumc staff accumulate their pension with the ABP pension fund. Radboudumc pays 70% of the pension contributions. You pay the remainder of the contributions yourself from your gross salary. The salary administration holds this amount back every month and transfers it to the ABP. For further information about the ABP pension, go to www.abp.nl.

You accumulate pension on your gross salary up to a maximum of €112,189 (2021 price level). This is referred to as the pension cap. If you earn more, you can save voluntarily for your pension. This can be done through the ABP net pension scheme, but you can also opt for a different solution. This is entirely up to you.

If you are accumulating a pension elsewhere, you can transfer your pension to the ABP.

Parental Leave

What is parental leave?

Parental leave is the right to leave to spend more time with your child. You have the right to a maximum of 26 weeks of parental leave: 17 working weeks unpaid and nine working weeks paid. For whom?

Both parents may avail themselves of parental leave.

Taking parental leave

You are allowed to decide for yourself how you take your parental leave; the entire leave in one go, or in segments. It may also be spread over several periods, provided that you take the paid leave before your child has turned one year old. And you must take the unpaid leave before your child has turned eight years old.

Applying for parental leave

Apply for your parental leave by letting your supervisor know at least two months before the desired starting date. You can do this as soon as you have started work. If you have already taken part of your parental leave at a previous employer, request a statement from the previous employer stating how much parental you still have outstanding. You can take the outstanding balance with you to Radboudumc.
