Working Conditions Selection Model

Using the Working Conditions Selection Model, you can swap working conditions so that they correspond to your own specific wishes and requirements. One major advantage is that you can pay less tax by switching certain working conditions. For example, you can use the holiday allowance, end-of-year bonus, or part of your salary or allowances to buy a bicycle or as compensation for a contribution to a trade union or professional association.

Compensation for commuting from home

You can request reimbursement for your travel costs for commuting from home to Radboudumc based on the working conditions selection model. You then swap part of your gross holiday allowance for an annual net reimbursement. This yields a tax benefit. The tax benefit is the reimbursement for the travel costs for commuting from home. We explain how this works on this page.

Cycle scheme

If you would like to buy a bicycle for your commute, you will be able to make use of the Radboudumc cycle scheme once every five years. Buying an (electric) cycle or electric scooter will allow you to profit from a large tax benefit through the working conditions selection model. You will in addition receive a one-off cycle allowance amounting to €150.00.

Reimbursement for contribution to trade union or professional association

By means of the selection model, you will be able to swap gross pay for a net reimbursement of a contribution to a trade union or professional association. This provides you with a net benefit. You do not have to use the selection model for all professional associations. This is because Radboudumc pays the membership fees of many professional associations and (quality) registers based on the UMC collective labor agreement (CLA).

Reinbursement of Travel Costs

In the form of a tax benefit

You can request reimbursement for your travel costs for commuting from home to Radboudumc based on our working conditions selection model, irrespective of the way in which you travel to Radboudumc. You then swap part of your gross holiday allowance for an annual net reimbursement. This yields a tax benefit. The tax benefit is the reimbursement for the travel costs for commuting from home. This is the only reimbursement that Radboudumc offers. Apart from this, we encourage the use of public transport (OV) through an OV allowance, or you can avail yourself of our cycle plan for acquiring an (electric) bicycle at a discount.

How big is your tax benefit?

To calculate your tax benefit, first calculate the reimbursement for commuting from home in the selection model. You calculate the commute reimbursement using the distance you travel and the number of days that you travel to Radboudumc, irrespective of your mode of transport. The tax authority (Belastingdienst) has set a maximum for the number of travelling days per year. A full-time staff member can receive the commute reimbursement for at most 214 travelling days per year.

If for example you live 20 km from your work, work full-time and do not regularly work from home, the annual travel costs reimbursement according to the selection model amounts to 214 days x 40 km x €0.23 = €1,968.80. If for example you work two days per week rather than full-time, the travel costs reimbursement amounts to (2/5 x 214) x 40 km x 0.23 = €787.52.

You will receive the net travel costs reimbursement in May. In exchange for the reimbursement, you waive the same amount in gross holiday allowance. The tax benefit is that you do not then pay any tax on your travel costs reimbursement. If for example the special tax rate of 37.1% applies, the tax benefit for the full-time staff member in the example amounts to €730,35. This is calculated by taking 37.1% of the reimbursement of €1,968.60. You will receive this tax benefit in May every year.

Compensation for days worked at home

If you regularly work from home, you will receive working-from-home compensation of €2.00 per day. You will not receive any reimbursement of travel costs for the days that you work from home.

OV allowance

If you travel by public transport (OV) for at least two months on 70% of your travelling days for your commute, you have the right to an OV allowance. The gross OV allowance is equivalent to 20% of the reimbursement for commuting expenses as calculated in the working conditions selection model.

Parental Leave

What is parental leave?

Parental leave is the right to leave to spend more time with your child. You have the right to a maximum of 26 weeks of parental leave: 17 working weeks unpaid and nine working weeks paid. Radboudumc will continue to pay 70% of your salary (up to the maximum daily rate) while you are on parental leave. We apply for a payout for this from the UWV.

For whom?

Both parents may avail themselves of parental leave.

Taking parental leave

You are allowed to decide for yourself how you take your parental leave; the entire leave in one go, or in segments. It may also be spread over several periods, provided that you take the paid leave before your child has turned one year old. And you must take the unpaid leave before your child has turned eight years old.

Applying for parental leave

Apply for your parental leave by letting your supervisor know at least two months before the desired starting date. You can do this as soon as you have started work. If you have already taken part of your parental leave at a previous employer, request a statement from the previous employer stating how much parental you still have outstanding. You can take the outstanding balance with you to Radboudumc.
