Job description

Prof.dr. Carolina de Weerth is looking for a highly capable, efficient, and enthusiastic Lab Manager to join her Developmental Psychobiology Lab (DPBLab) at the Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour in Nijmegen (the Netherlands). This position is a temporary replacement of our current lab manager, who will be on maternity leave.

You will join the very dynamic and highly collaborative DPBlab, a multidisciplinary group of senior and junior researchers. You will be responsible for assisting in the management of the DPBLab, and for working with the Baby Research Centre (BRC) at Radboud University for the recruitment of participants. The DPBlab is characterized by creativity, collegiality, teamwork and a commitment to science and society. 

This function is for 21 hours (spread over 3 days) for 7 months starting 15 September 2024. 

Duties may include:

  • Assisting in coordinating lab and field research planning.
  • Agenda management prof. dr. Caroline de Weerth.
  • Support in grant proposals (e.g. contacting collaborators, organizing meetings, literature lists) and systematic reviews (e.g. screening papers).
  • Creating SOPs, manuals, assisting senior people from the lab.
  • Maintaining websites, writing blogs and press releases about our activities and research findings.
  • Keeping track of the track-record of the lab (e.g. publications, presentations at conferences, valorisation and press activities).
  • Managing lab’s data organization and security, assisting and guiding in data entry.
  • Administering research collaborations (e.g. data transfer agreements, sending requested data).
  • Data management BIBO-study.
  • Administering finances pertaining to participant fees, lab supplies, lab analyses, reimbursements.
  • Overseeing purchasing equipment and supplies.
  • Arranging contract applications for new employees.
  • Onboarding of new colleagues.
  • Recruitment, hiring and managing of student-assistants.
  • Organizing writing weeks and social activities for our lab .
  • Administering and strengthening our BRC network of midwives/echocentra.
  • Participating in BRC management meetings.

At the department of Cognitive Neuroscience it is our goal to have a significant impact on health, prevention, and innovation of care. Together with our 150 colleagues at the department, we aim to achieve this through research increasing our understanding of the development, function, and plasticity of the brain as well as through teaching the next generation of professionals on these topics. 

The Cognitive Neuroscience department is part of the Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behavior ('the Donders'). Here, hundreds of experts study the brain and behavior in relation to health. Research into stress and stress-related disorders is an important area of ​​attention. 

The Developmental Psychobiology Lab’s (DPB lab) research focuses on early life influences on development. During pregnancy and the early postnatal years, environmental factors are more likely to exert programming, or long-term, effects on the child’s development. Our lab’s research includes three lines: first, influences of prenatal maternal mental wellbeing on children’s health and behavioural development; second, development of the physiological stress system in children, and its relation to behavioural and emotional regulation and physical health. And third, the development of the intestinal microbiota and its relation to children’s health, behavioural and emotion regulation, and physiological stress system.

  • Good verbal and written Dutch and English is essential.
  • Comfortable with relevant computer packages (e.g. SPSS, Excel, Limesurvey, etc.).

  • Previous experience of working with parents and/or children, of working in a child research lab, or of running (longitudinal) studies with children, is an advantage.
