About SPICE
There is a global need for sustainable solutions in infectious disease care: from infection prevention (IPC) to infectious diseases management and antimicrobial stewardship (AMS). SPICE aims to match low-resource hospitals with highly skilled experts, to co-develop and implement projects that aim at improving infectious disease care systems. Infectious disease management (IDM) essentially consists of identifying the microbial cause(s) of an infection, initiating - if necessary - antimicrobial therapy against microbes, and controlling host reactions to infection.
IDM requires collaboration to achieve more rapid, mutually beneficial and effective responses. This collaboration requires a comprehensive and strategic way of thinking about the problem of infectious diseases in order to minimize the impact.
Our experts have experience in a number of regions including Africa, South America, European Union, Eastern Europe and the Middle East.
Why SPICE?
Local leadership
SPICE follows a bottom-up approach and operates only by explicit invitation from the host facility, ensuring local ownership. We support facility-based interventions to maximize their direct impact on the quality of patient care.
Sustainable impact
SPICE experts provide advisory support, coaching and technical guidance for project implementation. They do not interfere in clinical work, but support in building capacity at the host facility to identify and address infectious disease issues.
Quality care
SPICE partners with local, regional and international organizations to coordinate and strengthen efforts aimed at enhancing infectious disease care worldwide. Our goal is to build equitable, collaborative partnerships with healthcare institutions, non-governmental organizations, and governments to improving healthcare quality.
