Included in registration
Price includes overnight stay at Conference Center Koningshof in Veldhoven, catering, and bus transport from Nijmegen Central station to the Conference Center and vice versa. Costs will be charged to your department after the conference.

Lucas Brouwers is deputy editor-in-chief at the Dutch newspaper NRC. He previously worked there as an investigative journalist and as head of the science editorial team and focused on how inequality in society affects health. Lucas created and presented the science podcast “Onbehaarde Apen”, directly translated as Hairless Apes, and won the Dutch Podcast Award in the category ‘Science’ in 2019. This scientific podcast hosts different guests and discusses small discoveries, wild theories, earth-shattering insights and everything in between. He studied Molecular Life Sciences (bachelor) and Molecular Mechanisms of Disease (master) at the Radboud University in Nijmegen (2005-2010).

Oral presentation guidelines
During the retreat, there will be parallel oral presentation sessions on Thursday and Friday.
- Oral presentations cannot exceed 9 minutes (7 min presentation + 2 min discussion). Please stick to the time limits!
- Please bear in mind that the audience is diverse and may have a different background.
- All PhD candidates who are selected for an oral presentation should hand in their presentation before July 7th 23:59h via phdretreat.ozi@radboudumc.nl.
- Give the file the name: Lastname_Firstname_Retreat2024
- The format should be a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation with 16:9 ratio.
- Presentations on USB-sticks will not be accepted during the event.
- Per session, two chairs and two members of the PhD council will grade the presentations according to a rubric. The best oral presentation will be awarded!
Poster presentation guidelines
During the retreat, there will be two poster sessions; one each afternoon.
- All PhD candidates who are selected for a poster presentation should print and bring their own posters
- Posters should be printed in portrait orientation; size A0.
- Mount your poster on your designated board at least 10 minutes before the poster session starts.
- July 11th – even-numbers
- July 12th – odd-numbers.
- Poster numbers are indicated in the abstract book which you will receive soon.
- The three posters that receive the most votes from the audience per session will be selected for a 1-minute poster pitch. This will be communicated directly after the poster session on Friday. The audience will decide which poster pitch will be selected for the best poster award.
