Mrs.dr. Stanimira Sparreboom-Kalaykova graduated as a dentist in 2003. Thereafter she completed a three-year postgraduate training at the Academic Center for Dentistry in Amsterdam (ACTA, The Netherlands) to become in 2006 a dentist specialized in Orofacial Pain and Dysfunction (in Dutch, ‘tandarts-gnatholoog’, certified by the Dutch Society for Gnathology and Prosthetic Dentistry, NVGPT). In September 2010, she defended her PhD thesis at ACTA and the University of Amsterdam on the subject ‘Internal derangements of the Temporomandibular Joint’. Between 2009 and 2011, she also worked as a specialized dentist at the Center for Special Dentistry of Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC) and a dental referral practice in Hoorn. Since 2011 she works as assistant professor and specialized dentist at the Department of Dentistry of RadboudUMC in Nijmegen. Among others, she is head of the three-year postgraduate training in Orofacial Pain and Dysfunction, and coordinator of research, (under)graduate education and clinical care within this dental discipline. Since 2004 she is a member of NVGPT, and since 2005 also a member of the European Academy of Craniomandibular Disorders and its new version, the European Academy of Orofacial Pain and Dysfunction. Since 2019 she is also a board member at NVGPT. The focus of her work is on Orofacial Pain and Dysfunction (including dental sleep medicne), with special interest in such pain and dysfunctions in special needs patient groups.
