Cancer Microbiology group lees meerOver Annemarie Boleij
My group investigates microbiota that impact cancer development covering the spectrum from individual microbes to biofilm communities, with a focus on mucosal microbiota. Close epithelial contact directly steers oncogenic and immunogenic processes that influence cancer development, as shown by my well cited publications. We combine in silico analyses with functional in vitro experiments and clinical data. We developed multiplex assays for toxin detection and innovative methods for shot-gun metagenomics on tissue biopsies from high-risk patients. Recent milestones of my group were our proffered talks at the AACR 2020 microbes, viruses and cancer and DDW 2022 on the association of bacterial oncotoxins with colorectal neoplasia development in high-risk patients.
