The department of Medical Microbiology (MMB) has an international and ambitious research agenda spanning a variety of topics: malaria, virology, vector biology, mycology, tuberculosis and antibiotic resistance. We offer an exciting and challenging position in which you as project manager will be involved with and support the complete lifecycle of research projects. These research projects are characterized by their strong international and collaborative nature and are funded primarily by a large variety of external funders including the European Union (EU), the Dutch Research Council (NWO), the Netherlands Organisation for Health Research and Development (ZonMW), the Welcome Trust, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Are you our new colleague?
As a project manager you will be responsible for the management of the EU funded EDCTP project 'Seasonal Malaria Vaccination Delivery (SMV Delivery)'. This exciting project, a collaborative effort between partners from the EU, the UK and Africa, aims to enhance malaria vaccination strategies for children. In addition, you will provide support and advise in acquisition, management and reporting of a diverse portfolio of other MMB research projects.
Your tasks will therefore include:
- Project management of the SMV Delivery project: communication with international consortium partners and the EU project officer (first point of contact), coordinating and preparing (international) project meetings and conference calls, preparation of reports and amendments, monitoring of progress deliverables and milestones in relation to workplan and budget.
- Overseeing financial, administrative and contractual obligations for a subset of projects running at MMB.
- Contribution to the central administration of MMB research project proposals and contracts.

The department of Medical Microbiology employs approximately 160 individuals across its domains of patient care, research and education. About one third of these colleagues work primarily in research, divided amongst 8 research groups working on different aspects of infectious diseases. MMB research projects span the entire spectrum of biomedical science: from fundamental molecular mechanisms and vector biology, through clinical studies at Radboudumc and in Africa to epidemiology.
As almost all research at MMB is externally funded and the project landscape is complex, the scientific and project management teams work closely together. Tasks and competencies are clearly defined and we foster a goal-oriented and open discussion culture.
You will be affiliated with the research group of Dr. Matthew McCall to manage projects with a clinical and immunological focus. For overarching research management tasks, you will become a member of the MMB Research Unit headed by Dr. Annemieke Jansens. The Research Unit is the department's central hub for all activities related to research project management and clinical trial registration. In this capacity you will contribute to the work of all MMB principal investigators and work closely with colleagues from Radboudumc’s financial, legal and HR departments as well as the grant support office. The Research Unit, staffed by highly experienced and motivated colleagues, provides an outstanding learning environment to acquire and enhance research project management skills.
