Goals

  • To improve interdisciplinary understanding and strengthen interdisciplinary research of psychological and behavioural mechanisms in health and disease. Broadening monodisciplinary research to interdisciplinary cooperation in research of overarching core behavioural constructs (e.g. stress, symptom perception, self-efficacy, resilience, stages of change, medication taking, system dynamics) and psychological mechanisms (e.g. learning principles, cognitive functioning, development) during the lifespan of persons living with chronic conditions, their relatives and healthcare professionals.
  • To increase understanding of the value and benefit of specific research methodology in specific research settings. The aim is to identify and exchange best-practices between the research groups in this program on preferred measurement instruments (questionnaires, wearables, focus groups) and methods (research designs, e.g., validation studies, ecological momentary assessment, action research, meta-regression methods) that form the basis for broader clinical innovation across various chronic conditions.
  • Optimizing management of psychological problems and behavioural change in an interdisciplinary approach. Optimizing evidence-based components in behavioural interventions and providing scientific backbone to practice-based strategies through interdisciplinary research of psychological and behavioural mechanisms. Improving the outcomes of interventions developed by members within the research program and offered by different healthcare professionals in a matched supportive care model.
  • To integrate psychological and behavioural sciences in Radboudumc research programmes (where relevant), in order to strengthen research and practice on disease prevention, treatment and recovery. The expertise of behavioural research methods will be introduced or improved in studies of relevant research programs. We will also contribute to personalizing effect measurements (personalized outcome assessment), i.e. tailored to symptom patterns and change preferences of individuals. Providing insight to both professionals and people living with the condition how particular methods (e.g. experience sampling) may assess different behavioural states and how these can be changed (not one size fits all, but a personalized approach).

Research Research programs Psychology, behavior and health

Our purpose

We aim to pool the expert knowledge on health psychology and behavioral medicine from different research groups of different medical departments and centers, strengthen collaboration, and optimize and innovate future research in this area.
