Goals

  • Unraveling the molecular and immunological mechanisms involved in kidney disease and kidney transplantation. 
  • Development of advanced pre-clinical model systems to study Kidney biology and pathology, and test new therapeutics.
  • Improving (genetics) diagnostics of patients with rare and common kidney diseases.
  • Optimizing patient care with clinical trials in glomerular- and tubular disease, and in kidney transplantation.

Kidney physiology

Jeroen de Baaij's research group wants to decipher the mechanisms of electrolyte disorders.

Nephrology

Luuk Hilbrands's research group focuses on the development of personalized treatment strategies for kidney transplant recipients. Major research areas are type and intensity of immunosuppression.

Translational immunology in kidney disease and transplantation

Raphaël Duivenvoorden's research group unravels the pathophysiology and develops new therapeutic strategies for immune mediated kidney diseases and renal transplantation.
