Research Research groups Soft tissue regeneration

About

We aim to promote the intrinsic regenerative capacity of the patient by developing cell-free biodegradable biomaterials stimulating the endogenous healing response. Focus lies on soft tissues/organs, with particular interest in skin, skeletal muscle, the urogenital system and congenital disorders.

Aims

Our research strategy entails the induction of soft tissue/organ formation using biomaterials with extracellular matrix signals and understanding the regenerative response.

The research centers around three pillars:

  1. Biomaterial design, e.g. structural design, 3D architecture, biomechanical properties;
  2. Bioactive compounds, e.g. by learning from regenerative systems or including specific polysaccharide sequences;
  3. Release systems, e.g. release-on-demand or in-house developed sustained release strategies.
