Laboratory support Services
Glassware
GlasswareClean, sterilized glassware can be found on each floor in the cabinets located in the corridors alongside the laboratories. Glassware is sterilized for 6 hours at 180 degrees Celsius ensuring complete cleanliness for laboratory work. Our autoclaves are regularly inspected to ensure they comply with the most up-to-date regulations. Dirty glassware is picked up by the LEM on a daily basis and returned to the storage cabinets.Used glassware should be placed in the green transport containers located under the sinks in each laboratory and in the kitchens. Please rinse glassware and remove any stickers, parafilm or pen markings before placing in the containers. Avoid damage to glassware by not over-filling containers. Empty containers can be found in the kitchens.
Solutions and consumables
The LEM will autoclave laboratory solutions (e.g MilliQ, PBS, medium and buffers) and consumables (e.g. disposable tips and Eppendorf tubes). Liquids should be placed in appropriate bottles or conical (Erlenmeyer) flasks. Solid material should be placed in an appropriate box with lid or bottle. Old autoclave tape and stickers should be removed. Never screw bottles shut; screw caps should be loosely fitted.Solutions and consumables to be autoclaved should be placed in the kitchen on your own floor in the dedicated wire baskets provided. Bottles, flasks and boxes should have autoclave tape clearly labeled with your name, lab-nummer and floor. Material in the kitchen before 11:30am will be usually returned autoclaved the same day but always within 24 hours. For urgent material delivered after 11:30 please contact one of the LEM employees.
Laboratory coats
Dirty coats that need to be washed and that are not included in the Radboudumc rotation system can be brought to the LEM on Monday mornings. We will make sure that they are taken to the laundry. They are usually returned to us within 1 week. We will bring them back to your department.Standard media available Services
The LEM makes a range of media that can be found in the cabinets alongside the laboratories on each floor. Please get in touch with a LEM staff member for special requests.
NB: All media is made using Demi water with the exception of PBS 10X, TAE 50X and TBE 10X that are made using MilliQ water

ImageQuant LAS 4000
ImageQuant LAS 4000 is a digital imaging system for sensitive, quantitative imaging of gels and blots, by chemiluminescence and fluorescence. A flexible combination of light sources and filters can be incorporated into the imager according to your needs.ImageQuant LAS 4000 is designed to quantitate the highly sensitive detection of proteins using Amersham ECL Western blotting reagents. A free combination of light sources and filters can be incorporated into the imager according to your needs.
The system consists of an intelligent dark box, camera, lens, and automated four-position filter wheel with a standard filter for EtBr and open positions for the filters delivered with the optional fluorescent light sources. Focusing, filters, illuminators, and exposure time are remotely controlled by a computer. Simple operation allows adjustment without having to open the cabinet. The intelligent light box provides automation and user safety. UV light sources are housed inside the cabinet, and can only be switched on when the door is closed.
A bright, wide aperture FUJINON™ F0.85 lens, specially developed for chemiluminescence imaging, projects sharp images onto a patterned CCD chip. By diagonally aligning octogonal pixels, the gap between pixels in the horizontal and vertical planes is reduced. This pattern allows an effective image resolution of 6.3 Mpixels.
The user-friendly control software has several capture modes for achieving optimal sensitivity and dynamic range including increment, repetition, and program modes. For image analysis, advanced and flexible ImageQuant TL software is available separately and comprises a dedicated suite of analysis applications to provide high levels of automation and accuracy in analysis of gels, blots, and colony counting.
