Applications in PRIME

The PET/CT and SPECT/CT scanners in PRIME can be used for the following applications in mice and rats:

  • imaging metabolic/biochemical processes;
  • imaging receptor expression;
  • imaging gene expression;
  • imaging in vivo migration of cells.

The CT scanner (i.e. without PET or SPECT) can be used for the following applications in mice and rats:

  • high resolution (20-40 µm) focused CT scans;
  • medium resolution (140-200 µm) whole body CT scans;
  • bone density measurements.

About our equipment

Two new radionuclide imaging systems were installed in PRIME: IRIS microPET/CT and MILabs microSPECT/CT. Radionuclide imaging relies on the radiotracer principle, where a small amount of a radioactive tracer (e.g. tumor-targeting peptide, therapeutic agent, metabolic substrate) is injected into the body to monitor a biological process in vivo. The scanners can be used for whole body, high resolution (0.1 - 1 mm), static or dynamic imaging in mice and rats.
