About us
The Nephrology department is a full facility center for renal replacement therapy and provides all dialysis modalities. Furthermore, renal transplantations are performed with kidneys from both living and cadaveric donors. The clinical and fundamental research of this department is focused on glomerular diseases and renal transplantation. These topics are studied experimentally and clinically.
The clinical transplantation research is aimed at the optimization of immunosuppressive therapy and the reduction of long-term complications. The clinical research on glomerular diseases comprises determination of prognostic factors for renal survival and efficacy of immunosuppressive therapy.
The experimental glomerular research is directed at the unraveling of pathogenic molecular mechanisms for proteinuria and glomerular inflammation. Experimental transplantation research is focused on induction of donor-specific tolerance by manipulation of dendritic cells and regulatory T cells.
