Professor Marinus de Kleuver is head of the department of orthopedic surgery, Radboud university medical center, Nijmegen, the Netherlands (since October 2016). From 1998 he pursued a clinical career in spinal surgery in the Sint Maartenskliniek, and he was appointed professor of spinal surgery at VU university medical center in 2011.He completed an international executive program (IEP) at INSEAD business school (France) in 2006, and was director of the orthopedic center of the Sint Maartenskliniek from 2007-2012.Clinical work and research is currently focused on the surgical and non-surgical treatment of spinal deformities in children and adults, and low back pain. Most research work concentrates on the evaluation of outcomes and improving care. He is principle investigator of a "personalized spine care consortium" with international partners in Hong Kong, Finland and Switzerland, and Principle investigator of the "Core Outcome Set Scoliosis (COSSCO) study group".
He completed a PhD in 1998 (awarded the Dutch Orthopedic Association Mathijssen prize) and has co-authored more than 60 peer reviewed publications and several book chapters.He is board member of the Scoliosis Research Society (SRS), Chair elect of the SRS research council, past chairman of the SRS World Wide Course committee, Chair of the AOSpine Knowledge forum for spinal deformity. He has travelled extensively, and has been visiting professor and performed live surgery demonstrations in India and China.
