About Irma Joosten

Irma Joosten is full professor in Medical Immunology. She trained in veterinary medicine, and specialized in immunology. Then she made the move to translational research and immune diagnostics in human disease. Her laboratory aims at innovative and state-of the art diagnostics in transplantation, autoimmunity/inflammation, immune deficiency and vaccine development. Research particularly focuses on unraveling the underlying immune regulatory circuitry determining inflammatory disease processes and to use that knowledge to define new personalized strategies for immunotherapy, and biomarkers to monitor immune status and treatment efficacy. She is leader of the Radboudumc research theme “Inflammatory diseases” that aims to find commonalities in pathogenesis and develop personalized treatments for patients suffering from diseases such as RA, inflammatory skin diseases, IBD. This is a collaborative effort between clinic, laboratory and patients. She has received a substantial number of research grants from (inter)national scientific organizations. She chaired the Dutch College of Medical Immunologists, serves (-ed) at several executive societal boards in the field of transplantation and laboratory medicine, and national committees on research strategies, and training and education in laboratory medicine. She teaches and supervises (post)graduate medical and biology students, as well as clinical trainees. She was head of the diagnostic and research Laboratory for Medical Immunology.
