This course is designed to train participants in accordance with the requirements of Article 9 of the Experiments on Animals Act. The course includes all relevant topics related to the design of ethically, legally and scientifically appropriate animal experiments. The course is FELASA accredited for ‘person designing procedures and projects (EU function B; reference 058/17).Two parts
The course includes two parts:- Introduction to laboratory animal science course
- Species-specific course on mice and rats.
Registration as Article 9 person
The certificates of this course together with a relevant academic Master's degree in Biomedical Sciences will lead to a legal recognition to design animal experiments for mice and rats in the Netherlands. Registration is done by the local Animal Welfare Body.Please note that presence at all lectures is mandatory.

Maximum number of participants is 40.* Please note: In order to check whether the admission requirements are met, participants have to register for the course by filling in the application form (see main page to download forms).

Admission requirements
All participants of the course on Laboratory Animal Science will be tested on their knowledge concerning Anatomy/Zoology and Physiology. Without a positive test result, participants will not receive their certificates even if they pass the LAS exam. One exception is: Master students who have a BSc degree from Radboud University in (Medical) Biology, Medicine or Biomedical Sciences, do not have to take the admission test. All other participants need to take the test for the LAS course. This requirement will apply for all courses in The Netherlands. 80 SBU or 3 EC given in the course. The course has a duration of 2 weeks full-time.The course for BMS students has a duration of 4 weeks, the contact moments will be on Thursday and Friday.

Students of the Radboud University don’t pay a fee. For PhD candidates, researchers and external students the registration fee is € 2,100.
