The Radboudumc Board of Directors decided, after receiving advice from the UMC council, to change the Radboud Biobank business model. Departments are obliged to include biobank collections in the Radboud Biobank, based on (inter)national quality standards and Open Science, unless this is not possible for operational reasons which should be discussed with the Radboud Biobank team. In summary, departments pay for half of the biomaterial processing costs and for the storage of biomaterial. The Radboud Biobank makes use of the Radboudumc central freezer facility. Our storage rates are therefore based on the rates determined by the central freezer facility management. A graduated rate is used for issuance of samples and labor costs will be invoiced.
For new biobank collections the new business model has already been implemented. However, for existing biobank collections there is a transition phase of three years that will start on January 1, 2025. Researchers with existing biobank collections are requested to indicate if they should wish to terminate the processing and/or storage of biomaterial. Labor costs will be incurred for picking and destroying samples. Unless otherwise indicated, the Radboud Biobank will assume that researchers will proceed with existing collections under the new policy in 2025.
