Our purpose

We aim to improve the understanding of tissue physiology and aim to aid in regeneration of lost tissues. We capitalize on modelling tissue physiology in advanced culture systems, innovative readouts, and translational efforts toward regenerative therapies.

Goals

  • Uniting expertise on biomaterials, engineering, cell biology & culture methods, imaging, omics, and functional analyses combined with clinical reflection.
  • Achieving cross-fertilisation of (predominantly young) researchers to optimize research progress and outcome.
  • Strengthening collaborations for the benefit of funding acquisition.

Medical neuroscience for neurodevelopmental disorders

Nael Nadif Kasri's research group aims to understand the pathophysiology of neurodevelopmental disorders.They use a multi‐level strategy that combines functional genomics and molecular & cellular neurobiological approaches. 

Regenerative biomaterials

Sander Leeuwenburgh's research group creates novel biomaterial-based therapies for regeneration of hard tissues. Overall, this group aims to decipher which physicochemical properties of biomaterials are able to trigger the natural self-healing capacity of hard tissues.

Simulations of bone and joint biomechanics

Dennis Janssen's research group focuses on the development of biomechanical simulations and innovations and their translation to clinical practice, to deliver the best care for patients with musculoskeletal disorders.
