Everyone at Radboudumc should be able to work and study in a safe environment. Consequently, it is important to treat one another with respect and provide opportunities for talent development. However, socially unsafe situations inadvertently occur.
To raise awareness on this topic and to stimulate conversation within our research community, we once again invited het Acteursgenootschap (Dutch Actors Society) for our 20th Research Integrity Round. This time, with their theatre play "Scenes on Social Safety" they performed in front of an audience totaling about 570 students, PhD candidates, research group leaders, and others interested.
The event started with a welcome by Carolijn Ploem, member of the Executive Board and Guillén Fernández, acting dean and scientific director, who demonstrated the importance of social safety by sharing their personal experiences.
The theatre production illustrated in four short scenes different forms of more or less unacceptable behavior. Between the scenes, moderator Jos Kole encouraged a dialogue on the subject.
Furthermore, the attendees were informed about the various measures Radboudumc is taking, such as the soft signals meetings (explained by Rober Koning), where various signals coming in to e.g. HR, confidential advisors and Executive Board are combined and actioned on.
Hopefully this meeting will lead to good discussions in our research groups and departments about the learning and working climate, so that we create a safe and positive academic working space for everyone.
