23 November 2016
During the yearly Digital Pathology meeting in Utrecht, Jeroen van der Laak was awarded the MedicalPhit Innovation Award.
The award was won for the CAMELYON16 grand challenge. This was a worldwide competition, organized by the digital pathology research group of Radboudumc. CAMELYON16 was highly succesful, with up to 300 teams downloading a large set of data to work on a clinically relevant problem: detection of metastases in sentinel lymph node tissue sections of breast cancer patients. As a result of this challenge, there is now a computer algorithm that equals the performance of pathologists in this tedious task. Lead organizer of CAMELYON16 was Babak Ehteshami Bejnordi.-
