Highly cited papers in mitochondrial research

Peter Willems, Jan Smeitink and Werner Koopman of the theme Mitochondrial diseases, published two papers that received enough citations to place it in the top 1% of their academic field based on a highly cited threshold for the field and publication year.
These papers were published in the New England Journal of Medicine on: "Monogenic Mitochondrial Disorders" (PMID: 22435372) and in Antioxidants and Redox Signaling on: "Mammalian mitochondrial complex I: biogenesis, regulation, and reactive oxygen species generation" (PMID: 19803744).-
