Since January 2020, we are publishing the Radboudumc Research Newsletter, a weekly organization-wide newsletter focused on research. This newsletter bundles news from the three research institutes and the information from Research Info and the Grant Support Office. In the past years we have been working on the format with our editorial team, but there is still room for improvement!
Who are we looking for?
We are primarily looking for Radboudumc PhD candidates or postdocs (RIHS, RIMLS or DCMN) who are passionate writers, and who are eager to communicate about science, by means of articles, blogs and interviews. Having followed a science communication/journalism course would be a big plus.
Would you rather like to take part in the editorial process, and provide us with a critical eye? We are happy to receive your application as well!
What's expected of you?
Our aim is to enrich the newsletter constantly with refreshing new content. Together with other members, you will be mainly occupied with creating new content for the newsletter, such as (personal) blogs, interviews, news articles, and more, about specific wide-range of subjects.
In case you have editorial interests, we have a weekly meeting in which the editors digitally check the items and discuss the composition of the newsletter. Your role can be designed in consultation, but involvement with the type of content, ideas for new items or topics and a final look at the newsletters before they are sent are essential.
In any case, we expect our member to be able to spend about 1-2 hour(s) a week on these tasks.
What can you get out of it?
Read on for a testimonial from one of our previous researcher members.
Ozlem Bulut, 3rd year RIMLS PhD candidate:
"I am so happy that I have been part of this team. I have gained a lot from it. Technically, the ability to do quick brainstorming, reading, writing and editing. Those are valuable skills for people like me who are considering a career in science communication. I also learned about lots of ongoing research in various fields, and how things go behind the scenes on an organizational level. I met many people from different levels and functions for interviews, thus extended my network. There was quite a lot of freedom to discuss and highlight anything that we, the researchers, find important. If you want to be a part of that, you are very welcome!"
