It sounds so appealing: perfectionism. Doing things perfectly or being perfect yourself can help you achieve great things – both for yourself and for the research you are doing. But perfectionism also takes its toll. Especially in the past corona-period, where there was less or only digital contact with fellow PhD candidates and your supervisor. Because it is less easy to compare and discuss with others, you may start to doubt your own work. You worry more, because you get less feedback on your work – ‘Am I still performing well enough? Is everyone satisfied with my work?'. You run into feelings of guilt because you are less strict about working hours.
As a result, you regularly work overtime to quell that guilt. You wonder if you're in the right place and worry that you're about to ‘fall out’. Dissatisfaction, unrest and uncertainty are lurking and are reinforced. The series of workshops 'About perfectionism' is given by PhD-psychologist Iris Bergwerff. Iris: 'These workshops help you to put perfectionism in perspective; we look at the origin of your perfectionism, we get to work with your perfectionist behaviors, your thoughts, your beliefs and look at the things that give you satisfaction. We do this in five sessions with a maximum of eight participants. By working in a group, you encounter others also have the same questions and uncertainties – an opportunity to inspire and motivate each other'.
In short: if you recognize the outlined situation and these questions for yourself, then sign up for this series of sessions via email (freek.kinkelaar@radboudumc.nl) ! An earlier edition of these sessions received a lot of positive reactions from participants, which is why we have planned another series in November, December this year and January 2022. The workshops are on April 7, 21, May 6, 19 and June 23 (follow-up) from 9.00am to 11.00am. Because a lot of people still work from home and we want to give as many PhD candidates as possible the opportunity to join, the sessions are online. If you have any questions about this series of workshops, please contact Iris via email iris@tsfp.nl .
