Recently, the Research Board has concluded that two programs, Hypatia Fellowships and the internal Junior Researcher (JR) round, were so far focused on quality only and thus largely lacking strategic focus. These programs led to both fragmented investments (JR) and over-crowding in a few areas (Hypatia). In the future, we would like to use these funds more strategically. Thus, the Hypatia fellowships will be distributed over the three institutes (one position per institute) and the JR round will not happen this year. We will use the budget freed-up for attracting and supporting research talent in line with our research strategy. After the organizational transition, the financial system will be different and thus we will use the budget to foster both scientific excellence and strategic focus.
The procedures for the PhD projects with collaborating hospitals and the PhD proposals of Master students will proceed unchanged but slightly postponed due to the current situation.
