News items InScience Film Festival with experts of Radboud university medical center

27 February 2025

International Film Festival InScience is back! This year, the festival celebrates its 10th anniversary and marks this with a special jubilee edition from March 11th to 16th at LUX Nijmegen and surrounding areas. The theme of this tenth edition is "Food for Thought," and, as every year, experts from Radboud university medical center will be involved in various programs, including topics on the effects of nutrition on the gut and malaria research.

For six days, InScience will showcase the most impressive science films released in the past year, with a total of 64 titles, including over thirty premieres. Some film screenings will be followed by a discussion, where filmmakers, scientists, and other experts will delve deeper into the films before or after the screening. Experts and researchers from Radboudumc will also contribute to various program elements.

Ammodo Docs: Shorts on scientists shaping the future – with Teun Bousema

Ammodo Docs presents three short artistic documentaries about artists and scientists. One of the films is Interplay, featuring malaria researcher Teun Bousema. Until now, research has focused on how mosquitoes infect humans. By shifting focus to how humans infect mosquitoes, Teun Bousema and his Dutch and Ugandan team contribute essential knowledge to global malaria control, which is even more urgent due to the discovery of a resistant malaria parasite.

Thursday, March 13th, 6.30-9.00pm. Click here for tickets for this program.

Shorts: De gallo qui ovavit and The documentary journey of madame Anita Conti – with Marjolijn Duijvestein

The short film De Gallo Qui Ovavit is a clever student film that puts a fresh spin on the age-old question: which came first, the rooster or the egg? In the short documentary The Documentary Journey of Madame Anita Conti, the writings, photos, and 16mm films of French oceanographer Anita Conti form the basis for a unique look at the rough, male-dominated world of a fishing boat crew.

This short film program explores the relationship between food, sustainability, and the impact of our choices on the planet. MDL physician Marjolijn Duijvestein will talk with Jos Borkent from HAN about how changes in our diet can affect the climate. How can we eat differently so that it is both healthy for us and the planet?

Saturday, March 15th, 1.45pm. Click here for tickets for this program.
