News items Vierdaagsefeesten: Mariënburgplein transformed into Kids Lab

27 June 2024

During the Vierdaagsefeesten, the Mariënburgplein in the center of Nijmegen transforms into a laboratory for children. Can you perform better in surgery if you play a lot of games? Test your surgical skills in our Radboudumc children's operating room on Sunday, July 14, and Monday, July 15, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM. There will also be various activities throughout the week at the square, from escaping a magnetism-themed escape room to learning about the universe in an inflatable planetarium.

Kids Lab

Put on surgical attire, practice your steady hand with our nerve spiral, and show how skilled you are with surgical instruments in our mock operating room. Pediatricians and surgeons Jan Peter Rake, Bas Verhoeven, and Floris Ferenschild will share their best tips. They are investigating whether gamers perform better on the surgical test.

There are also plenty of activities on the other days of the Vierdaagsefeesten. On Saturday, you can participate in various experiments from Radboud University. For example, escape from a magnetism-themed escape room, program a LEGO robot, or build your own water purification system. On Tuesday, go on a journey through the universe in an inflatable planetarium. And on Thursday, HAN Sport & Exercise will test your endurance with games, such as boxing with a VR headset.

Kids Stage

Next to the Kids Lab on the square is the Kids Stage. Daily reading sessions and workshops on music, dance, graffiti, or songwriting are scheduled here. Additionally, attend the performance of children's pop star Dirk Scheele and the lecture by science journalist Sander Koenen. Participate in the silent disco, craft tables, and water games.

You can find the entire program of the kids square here (in Dutch).
