31 January 2023

Mireille Broeders, professor of Personalized Cancer Screening, and Heiman Wertheim, professor of clinical microbiology at Radboudumc, joined the Health Council at the beginning of this year.

Members of the Health Council bring their knowledge and experience and contribute scientific advice to the government and the House of Representatives and Senate. Along with seven other new members, Mireille Broeders and Heiman Wertheim have been appointed to four-year terms.
Since 1 January, the Health Council consists of 114 members and never meets as a whole, but works from committees.

Mireille Broeders: "A population study has many facets. It therefore requires careful consideration to be able to say that the benefit to the participants outweighs the risks. As a member of the Population Screening Committee, I want to actively contribute to making this consideration in order to improve existing population screening programs and assess new population screening programs.'

Heiman Wertheim: 'The Health Council's deliberative group gives me the opportunity to jointly assess the advice given with a multidisciplinary team of respected experts. These are enriching discussions from which I learn a lot myself, but by also contributing with my input I can contribute to generate sensible healthcare advice for Dutch society.'
