Scientists Jolanda de Vries, Maroeska Rovers and Willem Mulder of the Radboudumc were elected members of the Netherlands Academy of Engineering along with 59 other experts. The NAE unites experts active in technological sciences, applied research and innovation. The inauguration of the 62 members will take place on November 13.
The new academy Netherlands Academy of Engineering (NAE) appointed 62 Fellows on November 2. From Radboudumc, the following members were elected:
- Jolanda de Vries, professor of Immunology and department head of Medical BioSciences;
- Maroeska Rovers, professor of Medical Technology and Innovation and scientific director of TechMed Centre Twente;

The engineers come from knowledge institutions and industry and share a passion for engineering-based innovation as a means to overcome many of our societal challenges. Technological developments, from electricity to artificial intelligence, have dramatically changed the world. Wise use of technology is crucial to the realization of innovations needed for the sustainable development of our society with broad access to good healthcare, food, energy, water and housing. This is the basis for the mission of the Netherlands Academy of Engineering.
NAE membership is considered equivalent to memberships in National Academies of Engineering in other countries, as evidenced by NAE's membership in the European Council of Academies of Applied Sciences, Technologies and Engineering (Euro-CASE) and the International Council of Academies of Engineering and Technological Sciences (CAETS).
